William And Catherine's First Anniversary, Thursday Tea Things And Talk

Welcome to my meme Thursday Tea Things and Talk!  It is really amazing to me that Prince William and Catherine, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will celebrate their first anniversary on Sunday, April 29th. It just doesn't seem like it has been that long!

We remember their engagement in November of 2010...Prince William having given Catherine his mother's Sapphire and Diamond engagement ring....

And then the wedding on April 29, 2011...a year ago! Amazing!

Pink Saturday Royal Wedding Bell, Colored Stones Rather than Diamonds in England

I am joining Pink Saturday with How Sweet the Sound today. The pink I found was from the design of a Prince Charles and Diana Royal Wedding bell from 1981. For more info on the bell or other Royal commemoratives at Time Was Antiques, click on the photos.

I think I thought of the wedding bell, which is by SylvaCeramics, England because of my last post about the green stone Tourmaline and Peridot ring we supplied to a couple (he's an artist in New York City) as an engagement ring. I received a lot of emails from the post asking about my comment that they are popular in the UK, and also by a number of ladies whose 20 and 30 somthing kids have also had colored stones for engagement rings recently.

When Charles and Diana were engaged in 1980, he gave her a large blue sapphire surrounded by diamonds.

And of course, in November of 2010 their son Prince William presented the same ring to his future bride Catherine Middleton.

When Prince Andrew married Sarah Ferguson in 1986, she was given a large ruby surrounded with diamonds.

And Edward VIII gave his future wife Wallis Simpson a 20 carat emerald.

And a royal cousin Crown Prince Pavlos of Greece married Marie-Chantal in 1995, she had a large oval sapphire with heart shaped diamonds.

So it is fun to see how styles change. By the time William and Catherine's child marries, what will the trend be?

Prince Charles Releases his Christmas Card Photo, Buckingham Palace Wedgwood Christmas Plate

There was a great article in the Daily Mail online  yesterday because Prince Charles released the photo he and Camilla will be using for their Christmas cards.

The image was taken on the balcony of Buckingham Palace after the wedding of his son Prince William and Catherine Middleton. The is holding his step grand daughter. I think that's such a great photo. The Daily Mail headline is Greetings From Grandpapa Charles.! The article also includes some great past Royal Family Christmas cards which are really interesting. Have a look.

In the Christmas and Buck House theme, here is a Wedgwood annual Christmas 1979 jasperware plate of Buckingham Palace that we have. I love Wedgwood blue jasperware and have quite a bit of it. It is no longer being made in the UK which is such a shame!

There are still a few items made at the Wedgwood (now Wedgwood Waterford) Museum and Visitor Centre in Barlaston by Stoke-on-Trent. I had a whole photo essay of the process taken last time we were there, down loaded to my travel laptop, which then crashed in the hotel the night we docked back in the US after a week's crossing on Queen Mary 2 back from England. I lost all the photos! I was devastated! Sigh... But this is from a Wedgwood book I have, Wedgwood, A Collector's Guide by Peter Williams.

The body of the item is a cream to buff color, whatever color it will be when fired. Then, when it is still damp, the motif his hand applied by an artist. The figures are about 2mm thick and are easily broken unless, like these artists, you know what you are doing! Then the process is quickly and deftly done. I love jasperware!

For more info on the Christmas Buckingham Palace plate or other items of Wedgwood jasperware at Time Was Antiques, click on the photos.

Wedding Bell Teacup Princess Elizabeth Engagement by Paragon

It's Tuesday Cuppa Tea. I'm a bit late....had a back issue that kept me off the computer for a day....sigh....But I am here and sharing with the other wonderful tea related blog parties shown at the bottom of the post.

Did you know that you need to be a bit of a detective when collecting teacups? This is a pretty Paragon, England cup and saucer with hand colored enamel in a variation of the Indian tree design with a very unusual wedding bell border which is very unusual with this type of a pattern.

That's what began the detective saga. The teacup bears the Royal Warrants for Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth who are the mother and grandmother of Queen Elizabeth II, and that was what gave me the clue. The cup and saucer therefore dates from 1937 to 1952. Princess Elizabeth met Philip Mountbatten in 1939 and married in 1947. I actually found a reference to the design dedicating it to the Royal Wedding of Elizabeth and Philip so I knew I had been right. Isn't that fun?

There was a bit of history about the design choice as well. As it was wartime and skilled workers were difficult to find, and the wedding was planned in a relatively short time, the design was in fact recycled from an existing design, color changed and the wedding bell border added for the engagement. So...it's amazing what history may be in your teacups!

I'm Back. Duchess Of Cambridge and Queen Elizabeth II View Royal Wedding Dress Exhibit

It's been awhile since I've blogged here...have been dealing with my Honey's heart problem and my other blog at http://antiquesandteacups.blogspot.com/. I am going to try to keep both going...sometimes it's like juggling...trying to keep all the balls in the air!

But just saw something I wanted to share. The British Monarchy just posted a link to a Flikr photo album of Queen Elizabeth II and Catherine or Kate, Duchess of Cambridge touring an exhibit of Royal Wedding dresses that was quite fun.

The exhibit is part of the summer opening of Buckingham Palace which takes place when the Queen goes to Balmoral. I have toured the Palace during that time and it is incredible...especially if you are a china lover like me. WOW!

Every year there are special exhibits during the opening and this year the exhibit is of Royal Wedding gowns and it includes Catherine's as well...of course!

The cake is included as well. There are lots of close ups of the gown. To see the entire slideshow, visit
