Anniversary Of The Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II on 2 June 1953

June 2nd is the anniversary of the day Queen Elizabeth 2 was crowned Queen of England in 1953...

 The queen followed her father King George VI to the throne...and George never expected to be king...actually was not pleased about it...

but became king by default when his older brother Edward VIII abdicated the throne to marry American twice divorced Wallis Simpson...

King George VI died at the Sandringham estate on February 6th, 1952 while Princess Elizabeth was undertaking a royal visit for her father with her husband Prince Philip....who had to inform her that she was now queen.

And the Queen, now the longest lived and longest reigning British monarch after surpassing the previous holder of that title, her great, great grandmother Queen Victoria, in September 2015,

and long may she reign!

Her Majesty is in isolation at Windsor Castle in obedience to government health advisories to those over 70. Her Majesty is 94.

Yesterday sho was seen out riding in Windsor Great Park, something she has loved doing all her life, but without her usual companion beside her due to social distancing.

Well done Ma'am!

Just remembering staying up late with my family to watch the coronation in California with my mother and grandmother...aka Nana... on our tiny black and white TV...wrapped up in a blanket with hot chocolate and Union Jack bunting sent by relatives still in the UK.

I had a model sent by an aunt from the UK of the Royal coach and horses in plastic that my father helped me put together for the coronation....

wonder what happened to that?

 And one of my favorite things when in London is visiting the Royal Mews around the corner from the main Buckingham Palace Gates to see the coach...

So... congratulations Ma'am on another glorious year on the throne!

Tuesday Cuppa Tea, Queen Elizabeth II Coronation Mug, Real murder at Sandringham

Welcome to the first tea party Tuesday for 2012! I am joining Antiques And Teacups for Tuesday Cuppa Tea and other great tea related blogs at the bottom of the post.

 I chose a coronation mug from the 1953 coronation of Queen Elizabeth II today as my teacup...great for a big mug of builder's tea...if you like it steeped like my honey! This was a design used by many different potteries. You may not know that all designs have to be approved by the Crown before they can be used on memorabilia. The same approved designs then can be chosen by several different potteries, so you will often see the same design by several makers. The British Pottery Manufacturers Federation was the equivalent of a co op that sometimes had the individual potter's name as well as the federation, and sometimes not. On December 26th, I wrote about a village cozy mystery I read at Christmas featuring a housemaid in the employ of Queen Elizabeth II solving her second murder by assisting the Queen at Sandringham House. The book is entitled Murder At Sandringham House. I reported it here: Dec. 26th blog post:
