It is the Diamond Jubilee year of Queen Elizabeth II that will culminate with national celebrations in June of next year, 2012. The Queen came to the throne on February 6, 1952 on the death of her father, King George VI and was crowned in 1953. The celebrations planned will be varied. Only one other monarch has reached this milestone...Queen Victoria, who celebrated her Diamond Jubilee in 1997.
