Queen Elizabeth II's Actual Birthday April 21, 94 Years Old!

Hiya! I hope your week has not been too traumatic and that you have been social distancing and saving lives.

Amazing what things have been put on hold and cancelled, from the Premier League to Wimbledon to cannon salutes!

 

 April 21, 1926 Elizabeth was born to the Duke And Duchess of York... wo later became King George VI and Queen Elizabth when his elder brother Edward VIII abdicated to marry American divorcee Wallis Simpson

 

 

Elizabeth was 11 when her father was crowned in 1937

And was became Queen in 1952 on the death of her father, and crowned in 1953 at Westminster Abbey 

Because of the coronavirus the Queen has cancelled, for the first time in her 68 year reign, the cannon salute giver Her Majesty for her birthday

Easter Week Maundy Thursday in the age of Corvid-19

Thursday in the Christian calendar of Easter week, Maundy Thursday is celebrated, and is always on Queen Elizabeth's calendar....

except this year. Due to the coronavirus, or corvid-19 and social distancing, especially for the soon-to-be 94 year old Queen, has cancelled the annual tradition...

this year accompanied by Princess Eugenie, daughter of Prince Andrew, this year at St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle.

 Part of the tradition is handing our pouches of coins to pensioners... one man and woman for each year of the Queen's age.

In 2019, 93 men and 93 women...
In 2020 it would have been 94... unless it will still be gifted without the usual ceremony, and so sad for those who would have otherwise been able to meet the Queen...

The money in the White Purse includes 1, 2, 3 and 4 silver penny pieces, the sum equals the number of years of the Monarch’s age.

The red purse contains a 5 pound coin minted to commemorative the 200th birthday of Queen Victoria, and amusingly a 50p coins commemorating Sherlock Holmes... :)

 This year the purse will equal 93p as Her Majesty turns 93 on Sunday!

Maundy Thursday, the fifth day of Holy Week is in remembrance of the sharing of the Last Supper with his disciples before Christ's death on Good Friday.

The origins of the ceremony come from the commandment Christ gave after washing his disciples' feet, where according to the Bible, he told them to "love one another as I have loved you".

Historically, it has involved handing out food and clothing and cleaning the poor.

Ever since coming to the throne in 1952 the Queen has carried out 

the tradition.

Queen Elizabeth II Begins 68th Year As Queen On January 6th

Queen Elizabeth II begins her 68th year as queen on February 6, on the anniversary of the death of her father King George VI at Sandringham on February 6, 1952...

The actual coronation took place on June 2, 1953... below is an original programme from the coronation...

 

Just a week ago, on January 27th, Queen Elizabeth became the 5th longest serving world monarch....

And the Queen continues in her tradition of service and dedication to the nation... this photo is from 2019.

I have only respect and awe for the strength, denying of self and duty she always has shown and will continue to show.

An example to anyone in a place of responsibility and power.

Queen Elizabeth And Prince Philip Celebrate Another Anniversary

Princess Elizabeth... now Queen Elizabeth II... was engaged to Prince Philip of Greece and England on July 9, 1947...as royal weddings go...a small and cost conscious post war ceremony.  

The couple are celebrating their 72nd wedding anniversary today, November 20, 2019.

The couple in May 2019, at a Windsor Castle Order Of Merit presentation. Prince Philip, who is 98, has retired from public life, but the Queen at 93, so continues her amazing life of public duties. 

This lovely portrait was taken in 2017 for the couple's Platinum anniversary of 70 years of marriage.

 Time Was Antiques has a set of Wedgwood, England blue jasperware dishes made to commemorate the Silver Wedding Anniversary in 1972, in original boxes.

Very nice profiles, indeed... or hand applied white jasperware.

Remembrance Day, Lest We Forget

Remembrance day, Poppy Day or Veteran's Day depending on how you were raised... Brit or Yank.  The name Poppy Day came from this poem written during the Great War or World War I:

Remembrance Day, with the Remembrance service at Westminster Abbey, laying the wreath at the Cenotaph and annual Festival Of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall

 is supported everywhere, even on sports pitches, with moments of silence and red poppies... 

Remembrance Day... 11-11-11... eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month.... from the day in 1918 when the documents were signed for the end of World War I...

which was thought to be the war to end all wars...

I wish it had been so...

On a blog post from 2014,I shared the Tower Of London installation commemorating Britain's entry into World War I. You can read about it HERE. It was finally finished...with 888,246 red ceramic poppies...the number of British casualties in the war...

The Times Online posted this photo of the Tower with the completed exhibit from the air, and a friend of mine is in London at the moment, visited the Tower and sent me this photo....

 Look at the way they poured from a window...the scope of it is truly amazing. Thank you, too, to all the veterans who have given so much for our freedom. Thank you. The poppies, which were made in Staffordshire potteries, were in place until Nov. 11 when they were be sold for 25 pounds each to raise funds for military charities, raising in excess of 12 million pounds.

The queen toured the exhibit at the Tower as will as hundreds of thousands. Versions have appeared at times throughtout the nation...

1977 Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Teapot And A Memorable Week For Royals

Well the last week was chock-ablock with royal things...

June 18-27th Royal Ascot, one of Queen Elizabeth II's favourite annual fixtures in her calendar...

 

Queen Maxima of the Netherlands and her husband the king were guests of honour of the Queen... and traveled in the landau to open Ascot...

the landau royal entrances are a highlight of the dressed up races with lots of amazing hats...

June 20th marked the 187th anniversary of the ascension of Victoria to the throne on the death of her uncle King William when she was 18....

June 21st was Prince William, Duke of Cambridge's 37th birthday....

A Wedgwood jasperware dish made for the birth in 1982...

June 22, 1911 was the date of the coronation of King George V and Queen Mary, Great great grandparents of William...

June 23, 1897 was Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee. She dies in 1901.

Royal Crown Derby thimbles for the anniversary of the coronation in 1987 on my saucer of a teacup my grandmother got at the 1897 Diamond Jubilee and gifted to me by her...

And I recently found a Rosina, Queens bone china teapot celebrating the 1977 Silver Jubilee of 25 years on the throne for Queen Elizabeth II.

The Julidee Year of 1977 culminated in Jubilee Days from June 6th to 20th.

Definitely a month of royal dates!

And I didn't even list them all!

June 8, 2019 Trooping the Colours For Her Majesty's Official Birthday

Queen Elizabeth's official birthday, is a moveable date in June as opposed to her actual birthday on April 21st... not always known for good weather...

So the nation celebrates Her Majesty's birthday in June...

this year today, June 8th, for her 93 official birthday...

There is first a carriage procession down the Mall... always packed with folks wanting to glimpse members of the royal family...

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Duchess of Cambridge and Duchess of Cornwall....

with other members of the family riding horseback....

Prince Charles, Prince William, Prince Andrew and Anne, Princess Royal...

to St. James for a review of the troops...

Queen Elizabeth used to do the review on horseback...here on her favorite horse Burmese in 1970... and depending on the temperature a guardsman usually  goes down.

My husband was in the Coldstream Guards, and remembers several of these incidents... one guardsman went down beside him once, but just after the Queen had passed by...

 Then it's back to Buckingham Palace for the balcony appearance...this year with Prince Louis and Meghan on a rare maternity leave appearance for the festivities...

aerial passby... and a lovely time had by all!

 Trooping the Colour was used as a motif for the coronation in 1953 of Her Majesty....

And her Majesty Trooping The Colour on Burmese was the subject of a commemorative coin struck for the Silver Jubilee in 1977 as well...
