Hi there! I hope your weekend is going well. I am stoked because it's almost Valentine's Day, our anniversary and I had a great conversation with a customer who is a Dudson jasperware collector. Most people have heard of jasperware, but automatically think of Wedgwood when they do. But...other companies made it as well.
Jasperware is a matte finish stoneware that usually has a contrasting color applied decoration, often referred to as sprigged. The colors are varied from black to white and everything in between. Here is a typical piece of Wedgwood jasperware.
Other companies have made jasperware over it's 200 year history but are not as famous as Wedgwood. These include Adams,Copeland, Castleton and Dudson. I really like them all. But I recently had 2 pieces of Dudson jasperware that I sold to a Dudson collector. She has been collecting for 25 years and we had a great phone discussion about jasperware, Dudson and England. Dudson manufactured jasperware down through the 1960s. But the best made were the older Victorian pieces. Here are the pitcher and cheese dish or cheese dome the collector purchased. Note the lovely work on the applied design. Just as nice as Wedgwood.

And this is really the fun part...and doesn't always happen. The collector sent me photos of how the items she purchased fit in with her current collection.
Can you spot the pitcher and cheese dome on the shelf above the bottom shelf? A lovely collection and I loved seeing where my items will be living. So nice to send them off to a loving home!

It is really amazing to realize that it's already February and Valentine's Day is fast approaching with cinnamon breath and rose tinted glasses!
I wanted to share a few things that bespeak the holiday fast approaching and are a celebration of color and sentiment.
This is a lovely 10kt gold hatpin or stick pin that we have at Time Was Antiques with a faceted faux ruby dating to the 1950-1960s with a pretty heart shape. I just love it! What a statement of love and color on a lapel or hat. Click the photo for more info.
Today we had a doctor's appointment in Seattle and took the ferry in from Bainbridge Island where we park our car. The shops are starting to be flooded with Valentine treats and goodies. It's a lovely time of year!
Another type of heart jewelry is this expansion bracelet we recently got at an estate auction that is probably already headed to a new home. These bracelets were popular from the late Victorian era to the 1940s. Here is another example from the 1920s. Click the photo for more info:

This is a Dunoon mug from 2005-2006 with a design called Valentino that we recently added to Time Was Antiques. The mug is by Italian designer Umberto Banchelli and has a lot of gold metallic accents that you can't really see in the photo. That speaks Be My Valentine in several languages! After being of the blog for a few months...settling in after a move coupled with our busiest season, I'm back at it.
Hope Valentine's Day was a sweet day. Today, the 16th is our 34th Wedding anniversary so we just got back from a fabulous dinner at our favorite restaurant in Sequim called Alderwood Bistro http://www.alderwoodbistro.com. They do a cedar planked fish with fresh organic baby vegetables that is absolutely perfect! Slow food!!!!
Our websites had a wonderful holiday season with lots of business. We are back from a short after Christmas break and are busy loading inventory. We have a bit of stock left from last year's English buying trip and our next is coming up in April so I'm trying to get caught up.

We have been adding some great items. We have added some English hallmarked silver watch fobs and watch fobs used as necklace pendants were featured in the January issues of both Victoria Magazine and Country Living. Amazing! They are certainly a fun accessory and I am thrilled that these wonderful ltiile collectibles is gaining recognition and appreciation.
You can see our current stock of these little cuties at Time Was Antiques . Watch fobs were a victorian must-have to decorate a pocket watch chain. Sometimes they were purely decorative and sometimes they were awards and medals. Mostly sterling silver but sometimes decorated with gold appliques or enamel work, with or without a monogram. Many were little works of art with engraving and beautiful cut work as you can see in the example above. They are certainly a neat collectible today.
Well, back to adding inventory to the websites. We recently opened a carton from our last buying trip to England with an estate collection of salts and a collection of British royal commemoratives we acquired while there so look for those items in our New Items category.
