Teacup Tuesday, Shelley Drifting Leaves Teapot and Teacup

Hi and welcome to Teacup Tuesday, and all the other tea realted blog parties I am joining listed at the end of the post.

I am sharing the Drifting Leaves pattern by Shelley China, England which is so perfect for fall. I love the teal leaves and the little black stars which are calle Snow Crystals. I have several pieces in this pattern but am just sharing a few of them.

The teapot is in the Gainsborough shape, and there is platinum trim on all the pieces.

The Drifting Leaves cup and saucer, as well as the other pieces were produced from 1956 until the pottery closed in 1966.

The set really sets a wonderful fall tea table and it is nice to have a lot of pieces in the same pattern.

For more info on the Shelley Drifting leaves pieces at Time Was Antiques, click on the photos.

On our way to Costco recently, I remembered to take a photo of a little bit of yard art by a local artisan. The business does green houses, but apparently he does this in his spare time. It's a great recycling project. The 8 foot high rooster is made of oil drums, and other discarded stuff. I think it is so cool!!!

Have a great time visiting the other tea realeted blog parties...and have a cuppa tea with a friend!

Historic Change for Succession to Throne In England

In an historic decision believed to be set in motion by the marriage of Prince William to Catherine and the esteem in which Queen Elizabeth II and her reign, The commonwealth has ratified a change in the succession to the throne that places female children on the same footing as male heirs for inheritance of the throne.

The BBC announced today that:

The leaders of the 16 Commonwealth countries where the Queen is head of state unanimously approved the changes at a summit in Perth, Australia.
It means a first-born daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge would take precedence over younger brothers.
Announcing the succession changes, Prime Minister David Cameron said they would apply to descendents of the Prince of Wales. They will not be applied retrospectively.
"Put simply, if the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were to have a little girl, that girl would one day be our queen," he said.
"The idea that a younger son should become monarch instead of an elder daughter simply because he is a man, or that a future monarch can marry someone of any faith except a Catholic - this way of thinking is at odds with the modern countries that we have become."
 An historic change indeed!

Pink Saturday Pink Transferware Platter And Fall Photos

It's time to join all the wonderful bloggers for Pink Saturday with How Sweet The Sound which is such fun!

With the holidays approaching, here is a pink transferware platter in with a great rural scene called Woodland, that was made by Enoch Wedgwood, England in the 1960s. Enoch is related to the great Josiah Wedgwood family, but a kissing cousin. But their ironstone tablewares are still very popular.

I love pink transferware, which is also called red. Perfect for the wonderful feasts we can look forward to in the coming months!. For more info on the platter at Time Was Antiques, just click on the photos.

Here are some photos of pumpkins for fall from the Cottage Journal from Hoffman Media Publishing who publish Victoria, Tea Time and Southern Living magazines and from Sunset magazine. Makes me smile!

Have a wonderful Pink Saturday. I intend to stay in and keep warm as we have a heavy storm coming through. Perfect for a cup of tea with the cat and a book...while my sweetie watches English football! Cheers!

Prince Charles Tries Pottery At Middleport, Kate Fills In For Charles

It's been a busy few days for the Royal family. As reported a few days ago, Prince Charles visited Stoke-on-Trent to view Middleport Pottery that was saved by his Prince's Regeneration Trust. He took time out during the dedication and festivities to try his hand at applying transfer printed decoration to a jug....

And didn't look exactly thrilled with the results.....

For more from the BBC about the visit, click on the photo to go to the article.

Elsewhere, his mother, Queen Elizabeth II continued her Australian tour which has been a great success...aside from someone "mooning" the queen in Brisbane on Monday. Sheer Cheek!!! (sorry...couldn't resist!)

In another bit of royal news, Kate or Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge filled in for Prince Charles on Oct. 26th for a gala private charity dinner for  In Kind Direct, on of Prince Charles' charities at Clarence House. The prince had to call on Kate because he had to fly to Saudi Arabia to offer the Queen's condolences on the loss of the crown prince. Apparently Kate filled in admirably.

Have a great day! We have shopping to do and a big order to pack and ship to a serviceman. Just got off the phone with him and was thrilled to be able to tell him how much we appreciate his service to our country. Never met him, but he is overseas doing his job for the American people.

Thursday Teacups And Tea Things, Brown Transfer Teacup, Toast Rack

Hi and welcome to Thursday Teacups and Tea Things. I am also joining Miss Spenser's Teacup Thursday and Coloradolady's Vintage Thingie Thursday.

I am really enjoying the fall season. The colors can be glorious. But already the trees are half empty having dropped the leaves that glowed so brightly so recently....sigh.  I am sharing an autum hued brownd transferware teacup with a wierd name. The cup and saucer is by Samuel Radford, England and was made in the 1930-1940s with the pattern name of Colonial Overhang. I just can't figure that out!!! Any bright ideas????

The cup and saucer is hand colored, which I love because no 2 are ever exactly alike. The teacup is ironstone and humble but so warm and homey to me...or homely if your a Brit!

I am also participating with Vintage Thingie Thursday. My vintage thingie is a toast rack. Toast racks were and still are to a certain extent, fixtures of English breakfast tables. And...you have to get used to lukewarm crispy toast to love them. But, you then have a great excuse to slather on the butter and jam to enjoy the toast.

Toast racks showed up in England in the 18th century and have been made in most materials from sterling silver to bone china with ivory and bakelite somewhere in the middle! This is a 1950s Old Hall toast rack with a very modern feel. Toast racks are now being used also as napkin holders and as letter racks in the office which is a great example for repurposing items. Recycling antiques & collectibles is green!!!!!

To see either the cup and saucer or the toast rack at Time Was Antiques, just click on the photos.

Tuesday Cuppa Tea, Burleigh, Middleport Pottery, Prince Charles

Welcome to Tuesday Cuppa Tea and the other great tea related blogs I am joining today, some of whom are listed below.

Today Prince Charles will be in Stoke-on-Trent for the first phase of the regeneration of Middleport Pottery, the only remaining Victorian working pottery in England. Hours before the pottery was to close forever, the Prince's Regeneration Trust stepped in to save the business and indeed the history of pottery in England. Middleport Pottery is home to Burleigh, which is still all hand made in England. Among the famous patterns they make is Calico

My personal favorite...well, maybe co favorite with one of the longest produced patterns in English history Asiatic Pheasants that has been being made by someone in England since 1750.

Here are 2 other patterns currently being made by Burleigh at the Middleport Pottery...Rosie's Hens and Victorian Chintz.

Burleigh is a name derived from the original pottery founders Burgess & Leigh who founded the pottery in 1888. The building is being repaired and the working pottery will be open as a museum and tour to watch the process of china being made.

To read more about Burleigh, the process and what they sell, click on this link:

I am so happy that Prince Charles is spearheading this project. Prince Charles has been in the forefront of preserving many of England's historic treasures.

Pink Saturday, Wedgwood Pink Fantasy Bird Plate, Queen Elizabeth II Australia

I want to welcome you to my Pink Saturday with How Sweet The Sound post.

I remembered I had this Wedgwood, England plate with a really bright, marbled pink, almost magenta bordered plate with a fantasy bird theme that was made in between 1906-1911.

The plate is six sided or hexagonal shape. Fantasy birds is a generic term for the birds with no possible identity...fantastic visions out of an artist's head, which were frequently seen on china in England from the Victorian age until the 2nd World War. They originally were copied from oriental motifs, many being thought to exist in that area, but turning out to be Far Eastern artist's license as well. I think they are charming and indeed, "fantastic"!

For more info on the Wedgwood Pink Fantasy birds plate at Time Was Antiques, click on the photo.

And a photo of Queen Elizabeth II on walkabout in Australia today during her Australian State Visit.

Have a great day and enjoy the Pink Saturday blog party!
